My top 6 favorite S.F. Bay Area grocery stores

We are so lucky to live in the San Francisco Bay Area which has incredible choices for foodies, whether it’s the amazing restaurants at all price points, locally grown, organic produce or the diverse selection of grocery stores.

Below are a few favorites.

Locations in San Mateo & Palo Alto.

What I appreciate:

Nice wine selection

Good gluten free choices including delicious Glutenetto cookies & dairy free ice cream.

Nice meat market

Large cheese selection

Locations in San Mateo, Menlo Park, Danville & Los Altos.

Great wine selection!

Three types of delicious smoked salmon at the fish market

Dang rice crackers!  Addictive & gluten free, I especially love the sriracha crackers.

Nice meat market

Huge selection of gourmet vinegars & oils!

Underground parking is a good alternative to the tight, small above ground parking lot

They offer grocery delivery

They email receipts & coupons

Really nice housewares store upstairs!

Two S.F. locations.  If you visit the 18th Street location you can treat yourself to the unbelievably amazing pastries & baked goods at Tartine Bakery as well as Bi-Rite Creamery.

Amazing selection of high quality organic produce, cheeses & pre-made items.  So many choices efficiently packed into a small space.

Be prepared, they are always crazy busy.

Sigona’s Farmers Market

A small, family owned market with locations in Redwood City & Palo Alto.

Food delivery as well delivery via  Instacart.

Nice produce selection in an outdoor farmers market type of setting.

Large selection of nuts & dried fruits in bins

A few meat choices

Large cheese selection

Rainbow Grocery

I wish they had more than one location.

The best selection of organic produce!

Great cheese & gluten free choices

A large selection of health supplements

Luv, luv, luv this store!

Gus’s Community Market

Three S.F. locations

Another favorite store that I discovered last year via a listing I sold in the Mission.

Really good sushi!

Sandwiches look delish; pretty packed at lunch (Mission location) due to an assortment of businesses in the area.

Good prices on organic produce

Friendly staff

A shout out to Trader Joe’s which carries my new favorite water called Spindrift, lightly carbonated with a squeeze of natural fruit & unsweetened.

Please share any of your favorite grocery stores.

Next post will be my favorite meat markets.

Let There Be Light!

Wow!  I may have found one of the most expensive chandeliers at $110,000!  I’ll take two :-).

Screenshot 2017-05-28 07.36.22.png

Beautifully designed by Lindsey Adelmen from Manhattan.  Check out her website for other inspiring fixtures.  They have a Los Angeles showroom as well.

I love shopping for light fixtures; there are an endless number of choices & designers that it can be overwhelming to make a final decision.  A few other favorite designers are Barbara Barry , Kelly Wearstler, Heathfield & Co. in the UK, & Bert Frank lighting (a blend of modern & vintage) also in the UK.

I expecially love the Medina with blown glass globes.

Bert Frank:  Masina Wall light

After much research, I decided on the above wall sconces by Kichler in a brass finish for our bedroom after our first choice was on backorder for 4 months.

If space & budget were unlimited it would be fun to change out light fixtures every few months to change up the look of a space.

As part of another project which was replacing recessed lights with LED lights I discovered Legrand wall switches/covers which are beautiful & a step up in design & style from Lutron IMO.

These photos don’t do them justice; they are more beautiful in person.  The plate covers are available in several colors including a mirror black or white, as well as an option to insert wallpaper into the cover.

For more lighting inspiration visit my Let there be Light! Pinterest board which has over 200 pins.

Happy shopping!

Thinking about a bathroom remodel? A few of my recommended vanities & fixtures.

Thinking about a bathroom remodel?

Check out my Pinterest bathroom board which has over 300 pins including fixtures, vanities & accessories.  I did all the research so you don’t have to!

An unexpected find when researching vanity cabinets  was coming across TKB Supply in Millbrae (they have a San Francisco location as well).  They have a great selection of vanities & fixtures, primarily bath but they also have some kitchen options as well.  I was really impressed especially after visiting Decorative Plumbing Supply in San Carlos (a larger, busy showroom) which is worth a visit as is Jack London Kitchen & Bath in Redwood City, where I fell in love with this $1500 industrial style faucet by Watermark.

Watermark industrial brass faucet

I decided on is the more reasonably priced Delta Vero faucet in a beautiful champagne bronze.  Brass fixtures & finishes are really popular & a great look when paired with a gray or black vanity.

THG Paris Perle Lalique fixtures are another pricey but beautiful option.

A run down of a few bathroom vanity choices are below.

Topex Design has some over the top, ornate vanities along with a drop dead gorgeous, modern glass vanity.  I must have this one for our next project; priced at ~$2500-3000.  On display at TKB Supply.  From Germany with a 3+ month lead time for delivery.

Other modern Topex Design choices here.

Keuco is another modern, glass faced option.  On display at TKB Supply.

Fairmont Designs has a nice selection of well priced vanities.

We have this one on order in black.  I will be changing the hardware to brass.

Madeli Bath Vanities are another nice quality line.

I also spent hours on Pinterest researching options.  Check out other fantastic wallpapers on my Wallpaper board.

Meet the Agent: Cheryl Bower

Congratulations to Cheryl Bower! She is celebrating her 8th year anniversary with Zephyr Real Estate in October and is based at our West Portal office.

If a client has a question about San Francisco, Cheryl will have the answer.  As a 3rd generation San Franciscan, her city roots run deep.  She applies her historical knowledge to guide selection, pricing and purchase of real estate.  Cheryl purchased her first home while in her early 20’s and went on to purchase several more, patiently renovating each one.  For the past two decades, she has also co-owned & managed a 5-unit apartment building in Glen Park.  She is able to provide first hand advice on the challenges and opportunities that arise with being a landlord.

Although she is a city girl, she is now firmly transplanted on the Peninsula and has grown to love the small-town vibe and all that San Mateo County has to offer.

Cheryl is one of our few agents to represent both San Francisco and San Mateo County sellers and buyers.  She is familiar with the necessary documents and disclosures in both the 415 and 650 and enjoys sharing lifestyle in each area to those new to region.  She’s also a member of both the San Francisco & San Mateo County Realtor Associations.

When catching up with Cheryl about her Zephyr anniversary, she shared some inside information to get to know her better.

1. What city do you live in and why? How long have you lived there and what do you love best about it?

I live in Burlingame and have for the last 12 years after my wife and I purchased a neglected Spanish Revival home which we set about updating.  We are nearly done with the transformation, preserving some of the original 1930’s details while incorporating modern conveniences.   Initially, I was drawn to the warmer weather and value available on the Peninsula.  I’ve come to love the community, the close proximity  to outdoor space & the friendliness of the locals.

2. What do you love to do in your spare time?

I have recently taken up golf and love to spend a relaxing day on the links. I have been know to put the finishing touches on an offer while waiting to tee off!  I enjoy surprising clients with my availability and tenacity in putting together a successful deal.

3. What do you think is the most important room in the house that clients focus on when buying and why?

I find that the kitchen is the most important room for several reasons.  Most of my clients are foodies and they will visualize themselves cooking and entertaining there.  If the kitchen needs updating, they understand the positive impact of doing renovations. Ultimately, the kitchen is the heart of the home.  It nourishes us by providing a place to prepare food and if it’s an inspiring space it can fuel the mind and soul in addition to the body.

Travel the World Without Leaving Your San Francisco Property

Visit San Francisco property on Chinatown.Take advantage of owning a San Francisco property and enjoy visiting Chinatown frequently. Enjoy the unique and impressive architecture while perusing the shops. A few of the most elaborate buildings are the Bank of Canton and Sing Chong Building.

Many events and festivals also occur each year in Chinatown. Come on down to celebrate Chinese New Year, watch talented dancers, or attend a lecture or craft workshop. There are even basketball jamborees, street fairs, and a Ms. Chinatown USA Pageant. Take a tour, browse an exhibit, or see a film. The list goes on and on. There is plenty for San Francisco property owners to do here throughout the year. San Francisco Chinatown is a true cultural asset to this area. Visit Chinatown online for a full listing of restaurants, shops and galleries, as well as information about all of the special events that take place here each year.
